Why AV Design Matters

We live in the Real World

Most AV Integrators start their projects by patiently waiting for an owner to describe their needs, just so they can brag about their resume for an hour and then go back to the office and copy and paste their most recent equipment list. We see this so regularly, we’ve named it “The Grocery List”. Assuming they took the time to plan (most don’t), you’ll need a design that supports the plan.

VIBE grew from a high-performance design consulting background. It’s the reason we are unique. Most of our competitors either started in residential AV and moved to doing conference rooms for those residential clients, or they were installing low voltage systems and decided that AV had better profit margins. AV firms who share our experience are huge, with huge beauacracy and overhead.

Design Services

VIBE Design Group began life as an AV design consulting firm. We started installing systems when we realized the AV Integration industry is broken. Most AV Integrators deliver “designs” for free. The dirty little secret is that these “designs” are copied and pasted by sales people based on manufacturer marketing. You get what you pay for.

CAD drawings

We work in AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup, and 3D Max. We issue drawings for SD, DD, and CD including floorplans, RCP, elevations, sections, schematics, rack elevations, panel details, schedules, and risers.

BIM Coordination

Our team members have been reviewing clash detection reports in Navisworks for over a decade.

3D modeling

We like to create quick Sketchup models early in the process to help visualize critical elements and discuss with stakeholders. This is great for both sightlines and ergonomics.

Prediction / Simulation

Predictive modeling is essential to evaluate the performance of different sound system designs and acoustics in larger spaces. Also useful for reviewing coverage of CCTV security camera systems and wireless access points.

MEP Coordination

This separates the men from the boys. We’re pretty sure some projects spend more than their entire AV budget on change orders for failed infrastructure coordination. Ditto for coordination with ID, structural, and furniture.

BOM Generation

Our Bill of Materials is structured to provide a breakdown of materials, labor, and other costs per room and per system (audio, video, control, etc). We show detailed subtotals for each room type and the number of rooms of that type.

CSI Specifications

We have an extensive consulting background and can provide a full CSI Master Format specification and biddable construction documents, if required.

Elevations and Sections

Sections are critical for video sightline studies and verifying audio system interference. Elevations are extremely useful for coordination with other design team members, particularly interior design.
